History of Engine and Truck Company 2
The Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company (PVFC) was established in 1923 after the Town of Purcellville endured a
series of disastrous fires, the first in 1900 and then two more in 1914, which virtually wiped out the business
district, depriving the Town of much of its earliest architectural heritage. [footnote - from town website as well as text and pictures from Mike Sanders book "Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Apparatus"]
PVFC is a non-profit organization established to provide a variety of fire and other
emergency services to the Town of Purcellville and surrounding area. We currently operate as a combination
organization within the Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management system with 50+ volunteer members and
ten career firefighters. Both men and women, between the ages of 16 and 59, staff our trucks, provide
administrative support, and offer a variety of emergency services to the community. Purcellville (pop 6,800) is
located 50 miles west of the nations capital along the northern ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains and just a short
drive from the Shenandoah River.Town of Purcellville
We routinely provide support to other regions of Northern Virginia as necessary, the latest call coming as recently as February 2007 to battle runaway wild fires in Louisa County.
The Company operates two Class A engines, a Tower/Ladder truck, a 3,000 gallon tanker, brush truck and Attack Jeep for wildland incidents, and a Special Emergency Response Vehicle (SERV). The ladies auxilary has responsibility for providing canteen support to major incidents in the western portion of the county.
